The BBC and Radio Times have released the title and episode poster for the final episode of the current season of Doctor Who, scheduled to air on May 18th. Spoilers ahead!

Quote Steven Moffat regarding the title, “There’s going to be a revelation. I’m not teasing. I’m not wrong-footing you–you’re about to learn something about the Doctor that you never knew before. And I think you’re in for a shock.”

Doctor Who season finale The Name of the Doctor

“The Name of the Doctor” will feature the return of Alex Kingston as River Song, last seen in “The Angels Take Manhattan.” Previous rumors had incorrectly pegged the upcoming season finale episode’s title as “The Funeral of River Song.”

The latter half of Doctor Who’s sixth season concerned itself more and more with the mystery surrounding the Doctor’s real name, touting that “Doctor who?” was, in fact, the final question, and that silence will fall once it is answered during the fall of the eleventh on the Fields of Trenzalor.

Showrunner Steven Moffat has his work cut out for him in regards to making the above sentence resemble any sort of sense, and it seems as if “The Name of the Doctor” is where that will happen. It’s also quite possible that “The Name of the Doctor” will concern how various cultures throughout the universe interpret the name “Doctor” based on the Doctor’s actions.

Still… is “Doctor who?” a good question for the show to be asking?
